At the age of 25, I took off my suit and stepped out of the tech industry into a scorching kitchen. This is a journey that started from scratch, kneaded together with sheer determination and sweat.
Before founding the brand, I was a tech worker who had never even held a spatula. It all started when I noticed my Korean colleagues frequently buying nougat biscuits as souvenirs to take back home. Watching them carefully pack boxes of nougat biscuits into their luggage like treasures, a thought suddenly flashed through my mind: "If these are so popular, why don't I make them myself? And make them taste even better!" Just like that, a few boxes of nougat biscuits unexpectedly became the catalyst for my transformation from a tech professional into a baking artisan.
It all began from scratch. With no background in the food industry, I brought an engineer’s experimental mindset into the kitchen and treated it like a laboratory. I spent 12 hours a day boiling sugar, all to create the perfect texture that would not stick to your teeth. Beyond developing flavors, I also handled everything myself—from managing the website and marketing to packing and shipping every order.
It was the most challenging time, yet also the warmest. As orders increased, my family, who had initially opposed the idea, gradually became my strongest supporters. We often gathered together and packed orders until two or three in the morning. The sight of my family working beneath that light became the warmest foundation of Rren Nougat. What we create is more than a delicious treat—it is a taste of happiness that brings people closer together.
Later, as the online market became increasingly competitive, I realized, “We cannot simply wait for customers online. We have to go out and meet them.” I led the team to major department stores across Taiwan, setting up pop-up shops where customers could taste our products and experience the non-sticky texture we are so proud of. Each face-to-face experience not only helped shape Rren Nougat’s brand identity, but also earned us genuine word of mouth.
Today, we have multiple locations across northern and central Taiwan. Although the business continues to grow, I know that moving steadily is more important than moving quickly. I tend to pay close attention to every detail. Before launching a new campaign, I try to anticipate the difficulties people may encounter. During meetings, I listen carefully to our frontline team members and to the feedback we receive from customers. By bringing together these different perspectives, we continue to improve and make our brand better with every step.
Rren Nougat has come this far not because of my determination alone, but because of the wisdom and dedication of our entire team. In the future, Rren Nougat will expand beyond the Zhuoshui River into southern Taiwan, and eventually reach customers around the world—so that more people can enjoy the wonderful flavors of Taiwan.
